We wish to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land

Our Research

Together with our sibling units: CITA and the Dunlap Institute and with faculty from the UTSC and UTM campuses, the Department has a strong research presence in the world of astronomy.

The exciting research carried out here in Toronto ranges from the origin of the universe, to star and galaxy formation, and to extra-solar planets.

The research themes of its faculty
and Dunlap Fellows span the Universe
and include: optical, infrared and radio instrumentation, Dark Energy, large-scale structure, the Cosmic Microwave Background, the interstellar medium, galaxy evolution, cosmic magnetism and time-domain science.

Our astronomers seek ground-breaking answers to fundamental questions
in collaboration with researchers from around the world and working with the most advanced telescopes on Earth and in space.
