We wish to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land

Selecting First Year Courses

Selecting the right courses in your first-year will be your first step toward success in our Astronomy and Astrophysics programs regardless of whether you plan to enroll as a Specialist, Major or Minor.

Within their first year, Astronomy and Astrophysics program students build up a requisite foundation in mathematics, physics and computer science necessary for comprehending the nature of the universe as explored in our programs’ subsequent years. (Note that program-required astronomy courses taught by our department faculty do not become accessible until the second-year of the program—although students may take AST121H1 in their first year).

Keep in mind that AST101H1 and AST201H1 are courses taken for breadth requirements or as general electives. These courses are not for science students and are not for students who plan to continue in Astronomy and Astrophysics programs.
