We wish to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land

Current Students

With a nominal completion time of 5 years, our direct-entry PhD program focuses on training students to do first-class research in observational astronomy, theoretical astrophysics, and astronomical instrumentation. The tri-campus department includes faculty at UTM, the Centre for Planetary Studies, (CPS) at UTSC, and the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA). The Department offers a wide array of research opportunities in observational astronomy, theoretical astrophysics, and astronomical instrumentation and collaborative opportunities for research in Physics and Statistics.
Besides research, our students enjoy living in multicultural Toronto, and are actively engaged in science outreach.
